Menstrual cups and coils, do or don't?

11 July 2022

Read in De Volkskrant: when the menstrual cup is removed, an IUD can be pulled out of the uterus or moved in such a way that it no longer protects against pregnancy. Very annoying of course, especially if it happens unnoticed. Research has indeed shown that women lose their IUDs more often when using a menstrual cup. We therefore advise against using a menstrual cup in combination with an IUD. If you still want to use a menstrual cup, do not use it until three months after placement. Break the vacuum before removing the cup without pulling the IUD wires. Always check that the IUD is not in the cup after removal.
